HISTORY

"Mr. Soccer" is an award given annually to the top high school soccer player in the state of Michigan. In 1995, Anders Kelto (Traverse City High School) won the award, marking the first time a player from Northern Michigan had ever achieved this honor. In 1996, Anders' friend and former Vardar teammate Corey Woolfolk (Ann Arbor Pioneeer) won the same award. In 1997, the two long-time friends teamed up and decided to run a camp in Traverse City, calling it "The Mr. Soccer Camp." The idea was to teach soccer from the player's perspective, and to emphasize skills and strategies that real players use in real games.

The response to this early camp was so positive that Kelto and Woolfolk decided to open a small business. They ran an open-enrollment camp in Traverse City in 1998 and 1999, and in 2000 they founded two similar camps in the Ann Arbor area. In 2001, new camps were estbalished in Charelvoix, Glen Lake, Manistee and Suttons Bay. What began as a small, two-person operation had now grown into a large operation that employed nearly a dozen staff members and reached hundreds of young soccer players throughout Michigan.

In 2005, a new Advanced Camp was established in Traverse City. The Advanced Camp is intended for players who have mastered basic soccer skills and are ready for a more challenging curriculum. It is three days long and attracts advanced players from throughout Northern Michigan.

This summer, Mr. Soccer Camps are offering two camps: the Traverse City Camp and the Advanced Camp. While we regret not being able to travel to as many cities as previous years, we look forward to again working with many outstanding players at these camps.
